Welcome to Crossword Designer

The Online Crossword Puzzle Maker Software Compile, Print, and Publish Your Own Crosswords

You are here: Help

Player Menu Bar

The Player has its own menu bar just above the crossword puzzle. This is not the page menu bar which looks similar but will take you to other parts of the site.

The menu bar has several commands organized into several areas which are discussed below.

Game Commands

By clicking on Game you activate the corresponding menu panel:

The Game menu panel contains several commands:
  • You can use the Reset command to clear the game and all your input.
  • You can use the Refresh in situations where the browser did not redraw the grid properly. The game will not be reset and you will continue from exactly the same spot as before.
  • The Save command saves the game on your computer. Please note this uses a cookie to store the state of the crossword game. If you are using a shared computer this means other users will be able to see your game.
    • If you save a game and return to it later and then decide to postpone playing that game, you will have to save the game again or it will be lost.
    • Currently, you can save only one game on your computer.
  • The Cancel command abandons the game in progress and returns to the web site.

The Reveal menu panel contains several commands that allow you to reveal a letter, a word, or the entire puzzle. When revealing a letter or a word, the word is revealed and the next word is selected. The next word could be the next word across or down depending on the current word direction. Once a letter is revealed it is marked as such using a color code and it cannot be changed further.

The Verify menu panel contains several commands that allow you to verify a letter, a word, or a the entire puzzle. Once a letter is verified it is marked as such using a color code. Further, if the letter is incorrect, you will have the opportunity to correct it. However, if the letter is correct, no further changes are allowed.

A full discussion of the Player color coding is described elsewhere in the manual.
